Information for Graduates from Pharmacy Programs Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
The issuing of a license to practise pharmacy in Canada is a provincial responsibility. All the provincial and territorial pharmacy regulatory authorities except Quebec require that applicants from other jurisdictions possess the PEBC Certificate of Qualification as one requirement for licensure. PEBC certification alone does not give an individual the right to practise pharmacy.
In addition to PEBC certification, each province has additional licensing requirements such as practical experience, language proficiency and jurisprudence examinations on pharmacy legislation and practice standards. For further information regarding licensing requirements in a province or territory, you should contact the authority (PRA), in the province or territory where you are seeking licensure.If you are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a first professional undergraduate degree program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), you need to pass the Qualifying Examination - Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSCE) to obtain the Board Certificate of Qualification. However, your qualifications need to be assessed to confirm eligibility. Please refer to the information booklet or the Qualifying Examination General Information page and Qualifying Examination Application Procedure page on the PEBC website www.pebc.ca, on how to complete your application, the fee to submit and identification to be provided.
If you are a graduating student:
You will be considered for admission to a specific session of the Qualifying Examination - Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSCE) only if confirmation of your completion of all degree requirements can be obtained before the start of that session.
In order to complete your application, if you are a graduating student, you must arrange to have a letter sent directly from your university to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, stating:
i) you are in your final semester and are expected to complete all degree requirements before the start of the Board Qualifying Examination;
ii) your anticipated graduation date;
The letter should arrive in our office not later than the application deadline as printed in the Qualifying Examination Information booklet. Your application remains conditional until we receive that confirmation.
iii) notify your university to send a copy of your final transcript directly from your university to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada showing your graduation date and degree granted. To prevent a delay in the release of your Qualifying Examination - Part I (MCQ) and Part II (OSCE) results, please request that the transcript be sent as soon as possible after graduation.
If you have already graduated (i.e. finished all degree requirements):
You must arrange to have your university transcript (showing your graduation date and degree granted) sent to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada directly from the university where you graduated. Your transcript, application, fee and supporting documentation must arrive in this office before the applicable deadline as stated in the information booklet and in the Qualifying Examination General Information section of the PEBC website.
In addition, ALL CANDIDATES must submit a signed, witnessed Photocopy of their Birth Certificate along with their Application Form(s).
